It’s crazy to think it’s already been 3 weeks over in here in Europe and it’s been a nice start so far. Some miserable weather has been experienced considering it is the middle of summer but I guess that was to be expected over here as anything can happen!
Nice solid start to my campaign with a T21 finish in the Golf Flanders LETAS Trophy. Course was very tight and only pulled Driver out the bag a handful of times over the course of the week. It was a beautiful golf course and the facilities were incredible.
Following Belgium I was due to spend a few days in Brussels before I would be allowed to fly to the UK due to transiting through Doha (red list country) on my way over to Europe. This all changed very quickly though as many ended up pulling out of the Big Green Egg Open in the Netherlands on the LET. An extremely late night on the Sunday prior to the tournament, finding out at 9pm that I was third reserve to receiving an email at 11pm to let me know I’d be teeing it up on Wednesday. Following many issues trying to organise accommodation, hire car and making sure my negative test result from Friday would still be valid to let me play were just some of the obstacles to overcome. I really had my first taste of COVID making things difficult which was a nice hurdle to have early on.
After a 2-hour drive to Arnhem, Netherlands on Monday I teed it up for a practice round after lunch. Another long day following a 6-hour practice round due to 2 different play suspensions due to the weather… I eventually finished and got checked into my hotel before having dinner and then collapsing into bed. The golf wasn’t as good as it could have been with some wayward tee shots and a couple bad holes which led to me missing the weekend. It really was a mentally challenging week this week but I learnt plenty from it.
Furthermore the past week I have spent in my second home of Welwyn Garden City where I have stayed with my adoptive parents who always look after me so well. I even finally got to play in the Welwyn Garden City Pro-Am held at the course I play and practice at when in the UK. Got off to a really good start but unfortunately hit some poor tee shots on the back 9 and had a few 3 putts which were costly to have me shoot a 3-over par 75 and finish T6. My team came 2nd and they were incredible and we all had a really enjoyable day. I look forward to hopefully being able to play in this event again next year.
For now it is time to get packed up and ready to head to Rome first thing tomorrow morning for the next event on the LETAS!
